Matariki Coding

For Reading we have been doing lots of learning about Matariki. The students have been using code to navigate through the seven stars of Matariki. Here are some photos of them coding with the blue bot.

Play Make Create Rockets

For the last two weeks we have been focusing on rockets. Last week we had a focus on Play Make Create with Rockets. One of the tasks was to create a rocket from recycled materials. The only specific criteria was that their rocket had to stand up. The children really enjoyed creating their rockets and came up with some awesome designs. Some even spent time modifying them to try and get them to stand up and meet the criteria.

Pom Pom Germs.

For the first few weeks back at school the children have enjoyed making pom pom germs. They chose the colours and wrapped their cardboard rings until there was no space left. They glued on eyes, small pompoms or pipe cleaners to decorate their germs. They gave their germs names and described what their germ did. Check out the kids blog pages for their stories. Life Education

Last week we were lucky to have Mrs Henderson online with us. She focused on Health and PE lessons relating to our feelings and about being in lockdown. We had to do a variety of activities. Share what we can do when we are feeling sad, lonely, angry. Create a traffic light kebab. Share what we would do if we had the superpower of kindness. Create a wishing jar of things that we would like to do when lockdown is over. Get outside and do some exercise and record our pulse.

Te Reo Maori

Last week Mrs Clarke set a challenge to choose a phrase from the Kupu o te ra slide to learn and use at our whare.  We had to video ourselves using the phrase. Here are some of our awesome videos.

Happy Mother's Day - Garden to Table

Over Level 4 and Level 3 of lockdown for Covid-19 the children in Team Awa have been doing Garden to Table from their own kitchen and gardens. Aimee put together this fabulous video to say thank you and Happy Mother's Day.

Crystals with Miss Fletcher

For Science we learnt about crystals. We got to make crystals using sugar and warm water. We had to dissolve the sugar in the water until it wouldn't dissolve anymore. Then we had to shape a pipe cleaner and put it in the jar for the crystals to grow on.
