For reading we read a big book called The Crazy Critters Cooking Convention. This book had lots of great examples of alliteration. We have created digital books using alliteration. Each student chose a letter of the alphabet to write a sentence using alliteration. We used the same theme of critters or animals too. Here are the digital books we created.
Welcome to Team Awa, Ohaeawai School. We are a collaborative learning team of Year 3 and 4 students. Our teachers are Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Clarke.

Pepetuna Artwork
We read the beautiful story Pepetuna by Denise Whitmore and used it to inspire our artwork about the special puriri moth. We were learning to blend paint and pastel.
Our first layer was the night sky. The second layer was black shadow trees and the third layer was our pastel pepetuna flying into the moonlight for just one night.

Bugs, bugs, bugs
We collected leaves and created awesome bugs to go with our writing. We glued them onto branches with some of our leaf writing.
Leaves, wonderful leaves.
We used leaves to inspire our writing last week. Here is some of our wonderful writing/poetry.
Leaf Poem
Orange
and red you
are awesome. Slish
you look nice. Bright like
the sun and white like the moon.
You fluttered down into my hand. Crunch!
You're crumply. At night you fly and day
you sing. Every day you curve up, please don’t die.
Moist and damp you get soggy. When you're red you’re
like lava slowly dropping into the sea. Dotty and
big and small it doesn’t matter as long as
you’re alive. Soft and silky you fluttered down
to me. Glossy green and maroon you’re still
my friend. Green veins in you.
Ferociously the breeze blows
you while the wind is singing Please don’t
go without me.

Wooooooosh!
Went a lava leaf as it flew down like a magic carpet. Smooge!! Went the leaf as it hit the ground like an aeroplane cruising in. A gust of wind hit the old oak tree and leaves fell like lightning as they charged at the ground. They formed a gooey lava mixture and glooped towards me. The spines reminded me of the soldiers in WW1 and WW2. Where do they go? Probably around the world and back again before moulding into the soil so new plants can sprout and a new environment can form. It keeps on going around and around and can’t be stopped. Leaves are a hope of the environment and nature can survive and life can move on.

Project Energise
Today we had Project Energise with Matua Bodean. Our focus for today was on co-operative games. We had to try and get the hula hoop around the circle as quick as we could using team work. One of the groups formed a chained and crawled through the hoop which was an interesting strategy. The other game we played was cross the river. We had to get our team across the river using only three plates. There were some very interesting strategies.
