Our Favourite Toys

Team Awa have been describing their favourite toys at home. Here are some of the great pieces of writing.

My favourite toy By Nick
It is a dirt racer.
The tyres can get replaced.
If you get it to turn hard
enough left then it goes right.

My toy Megalodon Monster Truck By Isaac
My favourite toy is my monster truck and his name is Megalodon. It is off Monster Jam. It has four wheels on each side. It can do backflips. The wheels are so big that it can fall backwards. He looks like a Megalodon but with wheels and a motor and an engine. He has got sharp, pointy teeth. It has big wheels.

My favourite fire truck toy By Aiden

If you are wondering what my favourite fire truck toy is well you asked the right person. My favourite fire truck toy is a big, red and white truck with blue lights on the top of it. This fire truck can pump real water into the tank. The fire truck is about up to halfway of my leg. You are probably thinking who got me the fire trucks and where I got them from. Well my uncle and my dad which there names are Brett and Brendon. They got the fire trucks from the shop in America.

Kaikohe Volunteer Fire Brigade by Kaelan

Kaelan wrote a great explanation about the Fire Brigade. I like the way you used paragraphs Kaelan.

Kaikohe Volunteer Fire Brigade is very important because if there is a fire they will put it out. They save people’s lives in car crashes or house fires or if doors are jammed.

First have you ever wondered why Fire Brigades are important? I have. They are important because they help helicopters to land so the ambulance can put the sick person in.

Next they have to make sure they put the equipment away at all times so that it is there for their calls. They need to check the chainsaw, jaws of life, cutting gear, crowbar, axe to make sure it is safe and ready to use.

Finally some times on Monday they have Fire Brigade night. They have training and check out the equipment.

When I grow up I am going to be a volunteer fireman. It will be quite fun. It’s another 7 years until I am a fireman.

Adding using tidy numbers by Rakai

This is a strategy we had been learning in class. Breaking the small number into parts, the first part to make a tidy number (number that ends in a 0) then the second part gets added on to find the answer.

Here is a google draw Rakai made to show this strategy.

Who am I? By Phoebe

Phoebe has been doing lots of writing at home. Here is her Who am I poem.

My Narn by Saxdyn

Saxdyn wrote this wonderful description of his Narn while learning from home. Great use of similes Saxdyn.

Garden to table Week 7

In Garden to Table this week the kitchen groups made coleslaw, corn fritters and fruit salad.

In the garden they planted some kale and silver beet seedlings and did some more weeding. They also harvested some seeds.

Thank you to Aseel from ASB bank for volunteering in the garden with us this week. We are also loving all our other wonderful volunteers who are making our programme run so smoothly.

Frogs, frogs!

Frogs

In Mrs Clarke's writing group this week we had 2 frogs visit our class. We brainstormed words about them and then wrote stories. We published our writing on a google draw and some of us practiced our chromebook drawing skills. Here is some of our writing.

Writing Week 6

For writing this week Mrs Craig’s group have started work on Poetry as part of a unit with School Kit about getting NZ writing. Their first poem was about them confessing to something they have done in the past, based on a poem called This is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams. Here are some of their interesting published poems.

Mrs Clarke’s writers used a watermelon as inspiration for some great sentences. The children had to
make sure they wrote correct sentences with a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end.
They used some great ‘juicy watermelon’ words to write awesome sentences.
