Fabulous food has been created by the Year 3s and 4s with our great helpers in the kitchen, thanks so much Aimee and Bronwyn. In the garden Sarah has been working hard with the help of Lee-ann. Today they are harvesting Kawakawa leaves to use in the making of balm. Our bees wax wraps were finished last week with the help of Gill. Here are a few photos of the very productive children learning lots through our fantastic Garden to Table programme. Thanks again to the few parent/grandparent helpers who have made our learning possible. We warmly welcome any helpers available any time between 8.30 and 12 on Fridays.

Spring Holiday Blogging
This is the Ohaeawai School's Spring Blogging Challenge. Select activities to complete over the holidays. You can upload to your own blog, email them to carmenc@ohaeawaiprimary.co.nz or alicia @ohaeawaiprimary.co.nz or bring them in next term to show us.
Remember that as we are posting directly to a wider audience, it is important to not only post photos and ideas but to also add a description of what you are posting. Remember to label it Spring Blogging.

Working with Waitangi educators
Team Awa Year 4's have been working with the educators from Waitangi. They came to our school on the 15th of August and did some great unplugged activities and then the children used their devices to explore Scratch and used Paint 3D to create cool backgrounds.
On Tuesday 3rd September the Year 4's travelled to Waitangi to spend the day learning with the educators. They again did some great unplugged coding activities. They also worked on their Scratch projects and added in the sprites they made using green screen at school.

Planet Earth and Beyond in Team Awa
We have been very busy in Team Awa learning lots about Planet Earth and Beyond. For reading, we have been looking at the Sun and learning about it's importance to Earth and how we make use of the sun's energy. So for Science we have created solar ovens. We are going to see if our designs will melt some chocolate. Here are some pictures of us testing our solar ovens.

Soccer skills
On Thursday we had James Coleman come in and work with us on our soccer skills. We had so much fun. We had to control the ball close to our feet. That didn't work so well when we were trying to go really fast.

Science and STEAM
Last week Team Awa had lots of fun creating. With Miss Fletcher we made a Bug Hotel to attract all the good bugs to our school garden. We used bamboo, newspaper, pots, cardboard, string and straw to create places for the bugs to hide in. We made the hotel rooms in a pallet. Here are some pictures of us creating the Bug Hotel.
We also had fun doing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) activities. We got to choose what we wanted to create. Some of us invented our own insects, some of us created insects from nuts and bolts, some of us engineered like a spider and created webs and some got creative with the arts and craft materials.
